Legislative Update

The Colorado Superintendents’ Modernized School Finance Formula Bill was introduced into the Colorado House of Representatives last week.  Colorado superintendents proposed legislation to update the state’s 24-year-old school finance formula, focusing on changing the formula to be more equitable.

In conjunction, petitions are circulating to get the Great Schools, Thriving Communities initiative on the November ballot. Its goals are to create a quality public education fund, ensure that decisions about how to spend new dollars are made at the local level, allow an additional tax on federal taxable income earned above $150,000 and on corporations, and stabilize support for schools by lowering property tax rates and then freezing the rates, which are the third lowest in the nation.
