Minutes of February 3, 2015 Meeting
• In attendance: Karen Nicknair, President; Kay Markovich, Treasurer; Bridget Jones, Principal; Greg Aigner, Becky Benson, Katie Gill, Deb Poskie, Jackie Greiner, Jayson Haberkorn, Amy Jones, and Kathy Sugnet.
• Karen called meeting to order at 5:10 pm. Introductions made.
• Motion to approve minutes of December 2, 2014 meeting approved.
• Kay distributed financial reports.
o Received $5830 check from Golden Services
o Received $731 donations for Co Gives Day
o Received $527 for Barnes & Noble Night; Jackie Greiner, B&N Chair will follow up on check from Pei Wei fundraiser done in connection with event.
o Received $332 check for Box Tops
o Received additional $50 for Longmont bottle caps
o Reimbursed Katie Gill $45 for GreatEd conference
o Cheryl Ludford reported via email that the Bike Cruise event lost money this year but the Civic Foundation will still donate $200 to Bell PTA.
o Cash balance per books at $10,676; budgeted future expenses total $3647 so expected cash at year-end is $7029. Funds available!
o Lynae Douthit to be reimbursed for Honor Roll snacks provided to students.
• Old Business
o Karen clarified that Target gives customers 5% off order and 5% to Bell MS for use of Red Card if linked to Bell MS.
o Deb Poskie announced that GHS PTA is having a Chili Cookoff/Silent Auction fundraiser on Thursday, February 19th from 6-9pm. $5 meal tickets if pre-purchased on-line; $7 at door.
o Amy Jones reminded us that she is the GHS PTA liaison to Bell MS. GHS is asking for parent volunteers to help run After Prom on the night of May 2. All welcome even if no kids yet in HS. Lots of help needed!
o Katie Gill presented the “Graph That Says It All” along with her “School Funding in Colorado” summary prepared from information received at the Great Futures Education Conference “Grassroots Powering Education” she attended on January 30. A “Keep the Surplus” petition was circulated. This graph and summary will be posted on PTA website. Kay to ask Amy Jones if she can bring petition and info to GHS PTA meeting next week. Petition due February 20.
o Lynn Renter, counselor, and Kami Berube, parent, are in contact with Diane Carlson of SmartCO, an organization protecting youth from marijuana, regarding a Marijuana Edibles program and educational literature to be provided to parents and students at a future date.
• New Business
o Sign-up Genius for Spring Conference dinner prepared and link sent to membership. Kay to ask Pam to put on website. www.SignUpGenius.com/go/30E044DA8AC238-spring/332835
o Bridget indicated she is not aware of current supply needs.
o Cheryl emailed update on new recess space which is being designed by the 7th Grade Istem kids and will break ground in the Fall using $70k from the City of Golden. Cheryl, Julie Behrens and Tracy Fletcher will continue to coordinate with school. Funding requests from PTA for any additional needs can be submitted next year as part of Grant Requests from Magazine Sale fundraiser.
o Nominations for elected officers postponed to March meeting with elections to take place at April meeting. Kathy offered to be part of nominating committee.
• Kay to email current/tentative future officers and chairs to confirm open/filled positions and request current volunteers write up a description of job including timing and time requirements. Descriptions and open positions will be posted to website.
o Bridget to determine when/how test days snack will be offered this year and report back to PTA with financial needs and/or distributing needs.
o Greg Aigner wished to start up Chess Club. $200 in budget for club.
o Jayson requested time at next meeting to present idea for PTA to become involved in OELS fundraising.
